I was coordinating a charity visit for my company to Old Folks Home and Pusat Transit Utk Saudara Baru @ Darul Hidayah recently, before hari raya. Here i would like to share some key learnings from the trip and we should not take it for granted. Time, once it's gone, it's gone.
Before i touch on the charity visit i would like to thank to a friend of mine (this is his blog :http://dehantu.blogspot.com/) who actually triggered me that it doesn't take much from you to make people happy. Few years back, he took initiative to gather few friends to fund an orphanage child education that he knew from his former school teacher. We just sponsored RM10 per head monthly and he will handover the collections to the teacher every month...it's nearly RM200 total per month for the child. See! It's just RM10 per month but we can make a huge different!

Iklan...heheh ---> Nana (http://huslina.blogspot.com/), as u said...sometimes (or normally :)) people interpret sharing as 'riak'. Orang kedah kata , "biaq pi lah"...heheh... and just be yourself as long as tak melanggar hukum syarak and you know what you do. "Hidup untuk memenuhi keperluan percakapan@persepsi orang luar adalah the very meletihkan." :).
Sekian iklan hari ini :)

Briefing before departure

Aznee, Azam, Ali, Soghir, Jep, Helmi, Latiff, Yusman, Ana, me, Ja, Ira, Sue
Now, let's move on to the charity visit. It was on Sept 19th...a group of us (Aznee, Ali, Latiff, Shariman, Azam, Helmi, Soghir, Ja, Yus, Ira, Sue, Ana, KakPah, Along and the very me) convoying with 6 cars to the center called Darul Hidayah at Kg.Permatang Tok Gelam, Penaga. The occupants of the center are 6 Old Folks and 26 Families of Saudara Baru/Muallaf. We brought together hari raya hampers (cookies & instant food) and angpau raya - all donation item from the staff of the company that we work for : both muslim & non-muslim. Thank you, we are truly Malaysian!
The event started with Welcoming Speech from the very friendly Ustaz Shahrul. Darul Hidayah is actually manage by Jabatan Agama Islam Negeri Pulau Pinang. According to Ustaz Shahrul most of the female Saudara Baru married with muslims guy and kena tinggal or teraniaya. So the center take responsibility to guide the Saudara Baru and they are given place to stay with their family for the maximum of 6 months.

Saudara Baru kita..
I was touched by a sharing from one of the Saudara Baru who is also one of the Muazzin for the Masjid nearby. Long time ago before and after work he had to pass by a masjid. And everytime he passed by, coincidently it was azan time. Automatically he will stop by the masjid and listened to the azan and tazkirah after the solat. He himself didn't realize why he did so. He continued to do so for few years and he found peace from there. He had been exploring for the 'Real GOD' all this while, he even had been very active in church and kuil before. Finally he found the destination. Our lucky brother decided to choose ISLAM, few years later the son too chose ISLAM. Unfortunately the wife & daughter decided to follow their own destiny. Please pray for Allah swt to open their heart for ISLAM. How lucky am I, born as muslim. I dont have to face such challenging moment, environment and people like what our Saudara Baru faces. They are loosing their family, boycotting by the neighborhood and their loves one but us...automatically born as Muslim, take things for granted, take solat for granted and take everything for granted. Nauzubillah.

The 89years old PakLang
The other touching speech was frm Pak Lang. I can see tears deeply in his eyes. Memang tak leh tahan ayaq mata dah waktu ni. Laju ja turun. Channel ni kot Melayu pulak no...heheh.
PakLang actually ada anak. Ni antara speech PakLang...
"Orang tua2 ni menyusahkan. Suka membebel. Bila sakit lagi susah, menyusahkan anak pulak. PakLang pulak bukannya ada wang ringgit. Orang tua2 ni kalau kaya raya mesti berebut anak2 pakat nak jaga. PakLang nak pesan, anak2 semua, kalau masih ada ibu bapa, jaga tuturkata, budi bahasa, tingkah laku dengan ibu bapa. PakLang mai dok sini bukan ada sapa suruh, anak2 pun tak suruh, tapi PakLang sendiri buat keputusan nak dok kat sini. Kat sini takdak sapa nak marah. Makan pakai orang bagi. PakLang buleh buat amal ibadat tanpa gangguan. Ni la ni PakLang dok jadi tukang mandi mayat. 4 tahun dok kat sini PakLang dah buleh pi Mekah. Hari raya ada jugak anak2 mai tengok PakLang. Mai tengok lagu tu la. Depa ada jugak ajak balik raya dengan depa. Tapi Paklang kata takpa la...ayah balik raya dengan pakmenakan hang. PakLang muhong pi la. Sebenaqnya Paklang tak pi balik raya mana pun. Paklang raya kat sini ja. Saja nak bagi sedap hati depa ja. Itu sajalah yang Paklang nak kongsi.."
Aznee dok usik PakLang
Walaupun simple ja ucapan Paklang but begitu dalam maknanya. One day kita jugak akan tua. Sifat orang2 tua ni memang ada elemen keanak2an. Suka dimanja. Camtulah jugak kita nanti. Dalam kes Paklang ni, Paklang nampaknya begitu berkecil hati dengan kerenah anak2 dia. Jadi friends, pada yang masih ada ibubapa, hargailah tempoh waktu yang singkat yang kita ada with our parents. Call them frequently if you stay far from them. Send them greeting cards or hadiah for their birthday, anniversary or hari raya. That's what i do for my parents and mom/dad in-law...it is a very small effort from you but very meaningful for them. With internet you can just do it with one click. This is the vendor that i use to send gifts to my inlaw in Kelantan http://www.love.com.my/. If there is a will, there is a way!
It doesn't take much from you to make
people happy!
The end of the day...
